Values
These are
what the United States Army lists on it's Recruiting Website (www.goArmy.com)
as the Army Values.
These same
words are displayed in 12X18 posters at the building where I work (also
displayed in several Army locations worldwide).
Under each
is a brief description of what the word is intended to mean to Army
soldiers. Here they are:
LOYALTY: Bear true faith and allegiance to the U.S.
Constitution, the Army, your unit and other Soldiers.
DUTY:
Fulfill your obligations.
RESPECT:
Treat people as they should be treated.
SELFLESS
SERVICE: Put the welfare of the Nation, the Army and your subordinates before
your own.
HONOR: Live
up to Army values.
INTEGRITY:
Do what’s right, legally and morally.
PERSONAL COURAGE:
Face fear, danger or adversity (physical or moral).
If you were
to compare these values with ones that a Christian should have, you might find
several similarities. I am not going to outline then for you this
morning---how about you doing that yourself. I challenge each of you to
take each word and find a biblical definition of it. You might be very
surprised to see why we are called soldiers of Christ.
Some
rhetorical questions to ponder after you do this challenge: How are you
living up to these values when applied in your Christian life? Do you
bear true faith to God? Do you fulfill your obligations to Christ for his
magnificent sacrifice? Do you 'do unto others as you would have them do unto
you'? Do you put the welfare of God and your family before your own? Do
you live up to Christian values? Do you do what is right, legally and
morally? Do you display courage when being persecuted or suffer
hardships?
