FELLOWSHIP
PSALM 55:13-14 -- But
it is you, a man like myself, my companion, my close friend, with whom I once
enjoyed sweet fellowship as we walked with the throng at the house of God.
Synonyms for
Fellowship:
companionship
camaraderie
comradeship
friendship
friendliness
partnership
Give me some examples
of worldly fellowship:
Sports Teams
Women’s Teas
The ‘office’
Father and Son doing things
together
Parties
Evenings Out
………………………
Now give me some examples
of Spiritual fellowship:
SHOULD BE ALMOST THE Same as above
Let’s put fellowship in our spiritual lives, with our spiritual friends, more than we do with our worldly friends!!!
ACTS 2:42 --
They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship,
to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
What good is
Fellowship?
Bonding…..becoming ONE.
Galations 3:28 --
There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you
are all one in Christ Jesus.
Remember what Jesus
said about the parts of the body
READ…..1 Corinthians
12:1-27
How do different
parts of the “body”, referring to “US” in the Church, affect other members of
the “body”?
Another important
reason to WANT to fellowship, to WANT to be part of the body is because God has
TOLD us to . Turn to….
1 CORINTHIANS
1:9 --
God, who has called you into fellowship with his Son Jesus Christ our
Lord, is faithful.
Is fellowship with
each other all that we should be doing?
Who else should we fellowship with?
Non-disciples
God
Jesus Christ
Holy Spirit
2 CORINTHIANS
13:14 -- May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and
the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
1 JOHN 1:3 -- We proclaim to you what we have seen and
heard, so that you also may have fellowship with us. And our fellowship is with
the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
Is fellowship always
FUN? NO…..explain. Fellowshipping with Christ is sometimes
PAINFUL, HURTFUL, SORROWFUL, …..what else?
HOW?
PHILIPPIANS 3:10 -- I
want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of
sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death,
What about people
that CLAIM to have fellowship, but are really putting on airs? Those that really don’t WANT to be friends
with others…because of differences like: age, race, interests, appearance. Are you every ASHAMED of being with someone
because they LOOK different than you?
Would you RATHER be ‘fellowshipping’ with someone else? AND, what about people that PRETEND to have
fellowship. Those who come together all
friendly and such on Sundays and Thursday evenings, yet, the rest of the week,
disregard Jesus completely and live their life the way THEY want to. Not sharing, not reading the Bible, not
praying, being selfish, lying, lusting, adulterous, slanderous, etc. What becomes of people like that?
1 JOHN 1:6 – 7 --
If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie
and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the
light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son,
purifies us from all sin.
SUMMARY
All of us need to
repent from anything preventing us from having good fellowship with each
other. What do YOU have to repent from?
